Boys varsity baseball dominated the Canton Cobras in a 12-4 game, on Friday, May 23, ending off a strong regular season.
The game started off strong with senior Elias Brendel on the pitcher’s mound. Coach Brendan O’Connor said he was impressed with Brendel’s performance.
“He was lights out pretty much for 19 outs out of 21,” O’Connor said. “To have that set the tone for us is a special thing.”
O’Connor said Brendel’s pitching allowed the Warriors to dominate most of the game.
“From one through nine in the lineup, our bats were on fire. [It] just makes it easier all the way around when everything is clicking on all cylinders,” O’Connor said.
Junior Jimmy DePalo, who was initially unlucky with his hits, pulled through, contributing two doubles to the game.
“I’ve been hitting it hard, but today they came through, and the hits got through the gaps,” DePalo said.
O’Connor said his favorite part of the game was bringing in senior Sasho Eash to pitch on the mound.
“He’s been working hard all season in that spot, and I think everyone liked it,” O’Connor said.
According to junior and captain Felix Ham, the highlight of the game was seeing the many contributions from different players across the team, which led the atmosphere of the game to be positive and supportive.
“It was just really great to see everybody play and get an opportunity to play, and it was just lots of fun overall,” Ham said.
Looking back on the regular season coming to a close, O’Connor said that it was a very successful season. With the regular season in the books, boys baseball will now focus on the playoffs.
“We had a lot of adversity to work through, weather conditions and injuries and playing against very difficult, tough teams,” O’Connor said. “That’s what good teams will do.”
Ham added to this good sentiment and said he reflected back on the bonds that were made throughout the season.
“We had a good connection on and off the field,” Ham said. “We were picking each other up at all times.”
