The varsity field hockey team came away from senior night with a 7-0 win against Framingham Flyers at Downes Field on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
The Warriors came out aggressively, shooting several times before senior Cally Feldman scored the first goal around 10 minutes in.
The Warriors were also strong on defense, providing no opportunity for the Flyers to score. After Feldman scored yet another goal, assisted by sophomore Audrina Williams, fellow senior Caroline Hughes scored from an assist by senior captain Zaira Johnson.
Williams attributed the team’s success to their continuous intensity on the field.
“We just had a great time playing evenly with the intensity. I think everyone has a really great connection on the field because of that,” Williams said.
The Warriors maintained their advantage in the third quarter with several scoring attempts, capping the quarter off with a goal from junior Molly Schroder, bringing the score to 4-0.
The Warriors remained relentless as the game neared its close, adding two more to the tally. Schroder scored one unassisted goal, slicing her way through the field and, soon after, Feldman scored another, completing her hat trick.
With a final goal from senior and captain Clara Thibault, the Warriors closed out a triumphant game against the Flyers with a score of 7-0. According to head coach Emily Hunt, the team looks forward to the postseason.
“This was the perfect game to set everything right, start feeling good about ourselves, get a lot of confidence back, and just have fun together on the field,” Hunt said. “I think they were able to really do that today.”
Following their win, the Warriors celebrated their graduating seniors with heartfelt speeches by their teammates, reminiscing about their journey up to this point, said Thibault.
“Field hockey has probably been the best thing in high school for me. It brought me all of my friendships and amazing relationships with people in my grade,” Thibault said. “I found something in ninth grade that I really love.”
The next game in the Warriors’ schedule, which decides their playoff seeding, will be a challenge for the team, said Hunt. However, this game has been a huge encouragement for the Warriors, and Hunt praised the impressive number of goals.
“It’s hard to score goals in field hockey,” Hunt said, “So to get seven goals on senior day, honoring our seven seniors, it doesn’t really get more perfect than that.”
Thibault looks forward to the playoffs and is hopeful for a successful postseason.
“We’re really hoping to secure a good playoff spot,” said Thibault. “We’ve had one playoff game every year that I’ve been here, so it would be amazing if we could win in the first round and move on to get another game.”
