Deborah Smith is a brand new ELL teacher at the high school, having just left Germany where she has lived for the past three years.
What made you decide to switch schools?
I lived in Germany for three years, and then I was coming back to the United States, and I really wanted to be in a high school, and I was really excited that Brookline High had this opening.
What are some things you wish you could change about the school?
To be honest I haven’t found anything except that my classroom is very small. I would like more space. Today, for example, we had a lot of people sitting here and it was really crowded.
How do you feel about expanding the school? Do you think there should be more than one school?
That’s a great question. I think that’s what they did in Newton, but we don’t talk about Newton here. I think that has advantages and disadvantages. So I think there is a different level of quality in the high schools, and I think it would be nice if everyone could go to the same place.
