Feminist and anti-racism activist Peggy McIntosh visited the high school on Wednesday to speak about her experiences of coming to understand systemic racism and how it affects whites and people of color. McIntosh, who is known for her article on white privilege, read sections of her article aloud and explained her how she became aware of each of the privileges she mentions in the piece.
She then had the group pair up, asking students and staff to speak to their partner about the advantages and disadvantages they received based on uncontrollable traits like race, socioeconomic status and birth order.
