On June 9th, the undefeated girls varsity team eliminated Newton North to advance to the sectional semi finals in an thrilling finish. Some members of the boys tennis team watched eagerly from the sidelines. On Thursday, June 10th, the boys tennis team avoided the same dramatic finish by dismantling Framingham High School 5-0.
The Warriors, led by an array of upperclassmen, were dominant from the start, with top-ranked junior Eliot Rozovsky winning 6-3, 6-0. Similarly, junior Alex Chin, who plays second singles, won his first two sets 6-1, 6-3. Chin said he was in control from the get-go and was happy to be able to pull out a win. The undefeated senior Theo Tamayo had a perfect 6-0, 6-0 showing.
In doubles, junior Alexander Comerchero and sophomore Jesse Lamba played very well, defeating their opponents 6-3, 6-1. Junior Drew McCarthy and sophomore Josh Caplan had a great match as well, winning 6-0, 6-1.
“I feel like we all had high energy and played to win, and because of that we are moving on to the finals,” McCarthy said.
Tamayo agreed that perseverance was the key for the talented squad.
“We kept our effort through the match and we wanted it more than they did, and we came out with a sweep,” Tamayo said.
The team hopes to continue its unparalleled success in the Division 1 South Sectional Finals on Friday, June 12 against Barnstable.
