In a letter sent to the staff of the Brookline Public School system this morning, Superintendent of Schools Bill Lupini announced that he is being considered for the job of Interim Superintendent in the Essex Technical High School District in Hathorne, Massachusetts. He wrote that he had been considering other positions and intended to leave at the end of the 2015-2016 school year, but that if he were offered the position in Essex it would mean leaving much sooner than that.
Updates will be posted as they become available.

Dear Colleagues:
Earlier this summer I informed the School Committee that, after eleven great years as Superintendent in Brookline, I would be looking at other positions that would offer me different professional challenges. At the time I thought that this would mean leaving Brookline at the end of the 2015-2016 school year.
However, in August I learned of and interviewed for a position that could provide me with the change that I am looking for, but which would mean leaving here much sooner than I originally intended. Last week I was informed that I would be named a finalist for the position of Interim Superintendent with the Essex Technical High School District in Hathorne, Massachusetts. I am honored to have the opportunity to meet with their School Committee later this week and to possibly have the chance to work with the 17 communities that make up the regional school district.
I remain committed to Brookline, to our students, and to each of you. If I am invited to be the next Superintendent in Essex, I will leave here knowing that this school system is well positioned for what is to come. Specifically, we’ve achieved two successful overrides to provide programming, supports, and additional learning time for students since 2008; we’ve created classroom spaces to house our growing student population; we’ve completed renovations and additions at Lawrence, Runkle and Heath; and we have implemented many successful programs and structures to meet the needs of our diverse student population. If I am not the successful candidate at Essex, I will look forward to continuing my work with our School Committee and with each of you on the many important issues that face us in 2015-2016.
Thank you for the excellent work that has been done to ensure that the first few days of the school year have been a great experience for our students and families. I remain humbled and appreciative of the opportunity to work with each of you in serving our pk-12 student population.
Best,
Bill Lupini
