Sag: What is your favorite moment of the sport?
HR: The satisfying feeling after a good race. If you won or lost, you still could have swam a personal best, which is always the most rewarding.
Sag: Is it more important to get a win or to lose and learn?
HR: I would say it’s more important to lose and learn. Losing brings a team together, and after losing many meets, a win is more special and feels like a greater achievement.
Sag: How many times have you seen a doctor due to swimming-related injuries?
HR: Surprisingly, never. Let’s hope it stays that way.
Sag: What makes you the most upset about your teammates?
HR: It really helps motivate others while they are racing when teammates are on the side cheering for you, so when they are not doing this, it makes me the most upset. I know when I’m in the water and see and hear everyone cheering, I step it up because I don’t want to finish my race regretting it and letting my team down.
Sag: What mantra do you live by?
A: “In swimming, you don’t get what you wish for; you get what you work for.” I know that all the yards I swim in the pool every day after school will pay off on race day.
