The boys swim and dive team dominated Milton High School’s co-ed swim team team at their final home meet on Tuesday, to the point that the score was not recorded. This brought the team’s overall record to 4-2.

Brookline’s swimming was strong from the beginning of the meet to the end. In 11 out of the 12 events, Brookline’s three swimmers came in first, second, and third place.

According to senior Michael Levin, the team was aware before the meet that it would be an easy one to win, enabling them to utilize the time to practice and experiment.

“We were going with a different lineup than we usually go with because a lot of guys were sick and we were trying out different things, trying to get best times even though the meet wasn’t going to be very hard,” Levin said.

Less than half way through, the swimmers took a break to observe the divers.  Milton’s team did not have a diving component, so Brookline’s three divers did not have any competition, and used the time to practice and get feedback.

Despite the easiness of the victory, energy stayed high in the pool.  Each of the teams cheered on their players during each race, encouraging them to go even faster and win.  Even when swimmers were the last ones to finish in their race, parents and teammates cheered them on.

One specifically exciting part of the meet was the 200-free-relay, characterized by energetic splashing and loud shouts from onlookers.

The one race where Brookline did not come in the top three places was the 100 Back.

“For the 100 Back, there was a close race between our number one guy and their number one girl,” Levin said.  “They were racing pretty much neck and neck for the whole event except until the last 12.5 yards, our guy Leon pulled away and we got first place.”

The boys swim and dive team has one more normal meet in the season, and then will go on to the Bay State Conference meet, Sectionals, and All-States.

All in all, Tuesday’s meet was a complete victory.

“There wasn’t really any doubt in our minds we were going to win,” Levin said.  “This was a day to see where we are, to race a bit, to see if we can drop any time.”
