The pouring rain did little to dampen the spirits of the seniors as they beat the juniors 28-14 today in the annual Powderpuff game at Parsons Field.
For the better part of the first half, the “Red” offense moved down the field at will, scoring first on an explosive 30-yard reverse run by senior Gigi Gray, and again on a 15-yard run during their second possession. At risk of going into the break down 14-0, the juniors capitalized on two long runs by junior Maya Chan, scoring right before halftime on a reverse by junior Spikey Freeman.
The second half was a mirror image of the first. The seniors got the ball to start and scored their third touchdown–this time, on fourth down. After a “Blue” three-and-out, the class of 2014 wasted no time scoring again. Senior quarterback Jay Nolte hit Gray for a huge completion down the far sideline, and they scored on the very next play to make it 28-7.
With time winding down, the juniors did their best to mount a comeback. Chan started things off with another huge run from the 15-yard line, eluding defenders and twisting out to midfield. Four plays later, junior running back Sophie Poole made it a two possession game with an 8-yard touchdown run down the sideline.
After a three-and-out by the seniors, a booming punt gave the juniors the ball back with length of the field to go. They made it to the “Red” 10-yard line before turning it over on downs. As the senior offense ran onto the field, referee Mark Fiedor blew his whistle, signaling the end of the game.
The senior team stormed the field chanting “undefeated” in reference to their victory last year as well.
