Sag: How has your season been going?
HM: It’s been going well. I’ve been PR’ing [setting personal records] every race so far except for one. I’ve done all the league races, I’ve done the Amherst Invitational and I’ve done the Twilight Invitational. It’s been great.
Sag: When, where and why did you start running?
HM: I started running in sixth grade because my mom ran marathons and because my aunt was a triathlete. I ran for Lawrence School and my first real race was the Boston Half Marathon in eighth grade. That’s where it took off.
Sag: What is your favorite part of being on the team?
HM: That everyone actually likes each other. It’s really fun and it’s not restricting. In practices, we usually get to run where we want. As long as we get the mileage in, it’s pretty much up to us.
Sag: What is one of your proudest moments as a runner?
HM: I ran the Boston Half Marathon three times: eighth grade, freshman year and this year. I guess one of my proudest moments was this year when I improved by over half an hour from freshman year.
Sag: Looking back on your freshman year, how has your cross country experience changed now that you are a senior?
HM: I think my understanding of the sport has definitely changed. It’s not the importance of only the fastest runners, but the depth we have within our team that makes us state champions
