What have you learned from your students?

I think I have learned a lot about myself. I have been here since 1990, so I feel like I have become an adult and improved at my job. I really like working with teenagers because I think they’re really creative and interesting. I don’t believe any of the myths that you hear about teenagers; that they aren’t communicative or interested in being people in the world.

Do you have any memories from teaching in Pathways that have stuck with you?

There are great, funny memories and there are really great moments when kids have “a-ha” moments. I think that between sophomore and junior year students are really resistant to getting any help at all, then they turn a corner and realize that help is a good thing that they can take advantage of. [This change] can help them in their lives to be able to accept help from other people. For me, those moments are the most important.

What are your hopes for the rest of this school year?

I always hope that everything goes smoothly and that crises are few and far between.  I want kids to be successful, I want them to accept help and I want it to be nice and smooth ride.
