Patrick McGee

Patrick McGee teaches world history. McGee previously worked in New York City Public Schools for seven years. He grew up in Massachusetts and attended Marblehead High School. He likes to spend time with his wife and son, read and play soccer.

What was something interesting you did this summer?

Well, I moved this summer from New York City to Massachusetts, so that was kind of my priority and my main interest. Once I finally arrived with my wife and son, we had about a month together in August to just enjoy ourselves in our new home and relax for the last remaining parts of summer.

What got you into studying and teaching history?

I’ve always been interested in history and science. It’s hard to say what got me into it, because I’ve been reading about this stuff since I was a child. I’ve always been drawn to non-fiction, and I’ve found the story of reality and the real world to me a little more fascinating than fiction. Because of that, I’ve just wanted to pass that on and share what I’ve learned with others.

What is one thing you always remember when you are in the classroom?

The flow and the vibe of the class in a lesson that day. That always sticks with me, and I find that that’s really important in my teaching. I want the students to leave the room and say to themselves, “that went by quickly” and not quite realize how much they were enjoying things.
