Peter Meagher
Peter Meagher is a history teacher who is currently teaching in five different classrooms, three of which are co-taught and two for special education. He comes from a family of teachers who mostly specialized in history as well. As an avid golfer, if he wasn’t teaching, he would like to be on the PGA Tour as a golf professional.
Is there one teacher that you had that comes to mind if you were to describe your high school experience?
From Catholic Memorial, it was a Brother. Unfortunately, he passed away a few years ago. He had an impact on all of his students and he really stood out as one of those teachers that everybody remembered. He was a history teacher as well.
Did he inspire you to go into history?
Yes. He was motivational, and he could tell a story and would just have the whole classroom in awe. So the bell would ring and he would immediately stop, and kids would actually have problems over what would happen next. They couldn’t wait any longer. He was that good at what he did.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I’m a big golfer. I read a lot, hang out with friends, I played [in a men’s] league hockey too.
What is something interesting you did over the summer?
I taught summer school at my previous placement. I bought a new car, which was a huge step. I needed an upgrade because my other car just broke down.
Is there anything else you would like to mention?
I’m just happy to be at Brookline High School. It’s been a lot of great staff and the kids are amazing. I think it’s a great preparation for college in this environment. I just think the whole setup of this school is really nice for kids to get along. Also, there is a lot of freedom involved. I went to a high school that was very strict and structured and here you get an opportunity to chose what you want to do and what paths you want to take. I think that’s really important that [freedom] gives people or kids the chance to make good choices.
