Elena Cruz-Lopez
Elena Cruz-Lopez is a new Spanish teacher at the high school. She is 42 years old and has previously taught in Boston as well as Madrid, Spain.
Could you give me a short summary of your teaching background?
I taught English in Spain, in Madrid for ten years at a private university, and then I came here to Boston and taught Spanish at the Commonwealth school in Boston for 6 years. And I also taught here at the high school for a semester about four years ago.
How did you know that you wanted to be a language teacher?
I have always enjoyed learning new languages. I learned English and thought that it was important to learn more languages than just one.
How have your first few weeks here at the high school compared to some of your past teaching experiences?
Well, the classes here are much bigger than I used to teach, but that also means that there are more activities that I can do with the students and the students are very engaged. The language department here has also been a huge help and is really useful with sharing supplies or activities.
How did you spend your summer before coming here this year?
I spent the summer in Spain with my family for most of it. We went on a trip to Greece as well with some friends, but I also spent a lot of time at my house in Spain.
