Throughout the school, yellow posters have sprung up, advertising the 2012 student variety show, also known as ReVisions.
The entrance fee was $5 at Dance Studio One at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12 and Friday, Jan. 13.
Unlike Progressions, the Creative Music Festival or Needs Improvment, ReVisions has it all.
Actors, dancers, singers and musicians will all be working together to put on the two shows.
Groups such as the Testostatones, Perfect Pitch, Note-a-Fy and Cantico will perform, along with individuals who auditioned.
Cantico, a self-choreographed dance group known primarily for its performances at the pep rally and basketball games, is taking a new approach at ReVisions.
“We’re usually doing hip-hop,” said junior Cantico dancer Sophie Born. “But we’re toning it down this time and doing contemporary and modern dance.”
Aside from dance, Testostatones, a student-run, male a cappella group, wrote a medley for ReVisions.
They performed “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys, “Bouncing Around the Room” by Phish and “Yesterday” by The Beatles.
“‘Yesterday’ is actually a really hard a cappella piece,” said junior Tyrone Rose, a member of Testostatones. “But it sounds really nice if sung well.”
Perfect Pitch, a student-run, female a cappella group, performed a variety of songs, not limiting themselves to one genre of music.
“We do songs that normally are performed by one artist and we break it up into different parts for everyone to sing,” said junior Tiffany Gosheff, a member of Perfect Pitch.
Throughout the year, there are many performing arts events.
However, ReVisions is the only opportunity students have to see all of the major performing artists in the school at one event.
Born believes that ReVisions is a truly unique show.
“There is so much variety,” said Born. “Anyone can audition for it.”
To Gosheff, events such as ReVisions are much more than just a performance.
“This is a chance for people to really pay attention to artists,” said Gosheff. “It means a lot to performers to have their efforts appreciated.”
