On Friday, Jan. 31, the Brookline boys varsity basketball team had an impressive win against the Wellesley Raiders at Schlutz Gymnasium. The stands were filled with students wearing head-to-toe purple and gold, honoring the recent death of basketball legend Kobe Bryant.

Sophomore Devani Perez got the Brookline High School Warriors off to a good start by scoring the first point for his team. He continued to score 11 more points throughout the game.

Both teams had high energy throughout the game, and they were in a constant back-and-forth competition of scoring baskets. The Brookline Superfans never stopped cheering, even when a Warrior missed a basket.

Senior Lucio Dahlstedt-Brown dominated the court with lockdown defending, scoring an incredible 13 points in the first half, and a total of 21 points throughout the entirety of the game.

The second quarter ended with senior and captain Ben Ordonez scoring two to take the lead, until Wellesley’s Anthony Lumley scored to tie the game up 29-29.

The warriors managed to gain and maintain the lead by the fourth quarter, and senior Bryce Burke scored the team’s final point for a final score of 62-51.

Junior Jack Altman reflected positively on his teams overall combined effort and energy.

“We were able to win due to the fact we were all sharing the ball equally and looking to get the best shot possible every time down the court,” Altman said. “Also, we kept the intensity of our defense high throughout the whole game, allowing us to come out with the victory”
