The Makery
The Makery is a design workshop that intertwines art and technology, helping the Brookline community create beautiful pieces of artwork. They host classes that use their wide variety of STEM machines, like laser cutters and 3D printers, to create pieces. Although the Makery doors have been shut, they have adjusted to online resources. The biggest help would be to donate to the Makery’s COVID-19 relief fund on their website. This would allow them to continue making face shields and other personal protective equipment that they can send to local hospitals. They have also begun free online classes and workshops. According to co-founder Hayley Greenberg, and the Director of Youth Education Rebecca Loechler, the difference between their classes and others is that they are delivering parts needed for their classes, such as laser-cut pieces or the product of a 3D printer file design. For those who live farther away, shipment is possible. There are open workshops for those who want to call in and share what they are working on. Join the Makery for their free online classes, local delivery or contact them if you would like anything designed. This welcoming and warm atmosphere was created by two engineers about two and a half years ago and has grown to offer popular classes that both adults and kids enjoy taking. Located in a basement behind Trader Joes, people come into this stress-free space to create a piece of their own, learn a new skill such as programming or even take an existing piece and add their personality to it, allowing them to leave with more confidence. Stay tuned for project kits and their online store which will be launched for ordering soon.
