Aryn Lee’s movie and TV recommendations for winter
Quarantine has been tough on all of us, and it’s understandable to feel like there is no separation between work and home. As we head into the cold, desolate winter, here are a few of my own favorite movies and TV shows to help unwind at the end of the week.
Gilmore Girls
When I think of the fall and winter, I think of “Gilmore Girls.” This feel-good comedy follows the relationship between a spirited mother, Lorelai Gilmore, and her daughter, Rory Gilmore, and their life in a small town called Stars Hollow. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll feel the cheerful and warm energy of the show permeating through your screen. I highly recommend watching in bed with a nice cozy blanket and a warm cup of hot cocoa.
Unsolved Mysteries
If you love true crime and supernatural mysteries, this is the series for you. Featuring stories from all around the globe, this Netflix original series explores many unsolved mysteries (hence the title), both well-known and obscure. Not to mention, the show itself has actually helped some investigators track down new leads. Overall, it’s very fascinating!
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
We all know the famous Mr. Rogers. He’s the fun-loving and caring man on PBS who taught us how to share and spread kindness to others. This 2019 movie, starring Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers, is a wonderful and comforting experience as you follow him around for a day in his life. If you’ve never cried during a movie, this will certainly do the trick. Get out your tissues, this one is a doozy.
Schitt’s Creek
This show has a cult following, and for good reason. This Emmy-award winning comedy features a wealthy family, the Roses, who lose all of their money and possessions and are forced to move to their only holding left, a town called Schitt’s Creek. Yes, that’s actually the name. If you are a fashion lover, you’ll certainly appreciate the designer clothing cameos and attention to detail. If not, there is so much else to love too. Whether it be the hilarious plot lines, dramatic characters, or shocking drama in the town, there is something in this show for everyone.
Always Be My Maybe
Although this movie came out over a year ago, I still love it to this day. I’m generally not an avid rom-com watcher, but I loved watching the two high school sweethearts, Sasha Tran and Marcus Park, reconnect and rekindle their heartfelt relationship. Also let me just say, I think Ali Wong is a comedic genius. Plus, we love a diverse cast and crew!
Hopefully these movies and TV shows bring you as much joy as they bought me. Happy watching!!
