Juicy bowl, bland fruit. This is atypical, but so is junior Chloe Fishman’s sculpture of the same name.
“I was trying to do something different,” she said. “It’s a way of looking at something so simple in a different way.”
The sculpture, which can be seen in the new Artspace gallery “Composed in 46,” is made of wire, papier-mâché and aluminum foil. As the name suggests, it is a juicycolored bowl filled with very bland colored fruit, contrary to the more normal juicy fruit and a bland bowl combination.
Fishman, who made the sculpture in her sculpture I class, said that at first she was “just messing around,” and she “didn’t know where to go with it.” But then the idea stuck her, and she decided to make it into a fruit bowl.
“I really enjoyed painting it because it was all over the place,” said Fishman, who, if she were to do it again, said she would have made the whole piece a bit smoother.
The best thing about “Juicy Bowl, Bland Fruit,” in Fishman’s opinion, is how much she enjoyed going crazy with it.
