Bianca D’Antonio
Bianca D’Antonio began teaching this year at the high school as a paraprofessional after completing her undergraduate at Emerson College. She currently attends graduate school at Lesley University. She loves singing and drama and hopes to become a history teacher in the coming years.
What’s your favorite part of the high school so far?
I really enjoy being in a bunch of different kinds of classrooms. That’s something that is a little more unique to the kind of job that I have here. It’s been really great to interact with different class sizes, different kinds of classes. I’m in English and history classes, and getting a variety has been really great.
Did you have any adults in your life when you were a kid who inspired you to teach?
A lot of my family works in education. My mom is a middle school guidance counselor and I have a bunch of aunts who are teachers, and my grandfather has been a teacher, a principal, a superintendent, so he’s been all over the place in the school system. I’ve had a lot of role models in my life who have shown me the value of education.
What are your goals for this job? Where do you see yourself in the coming years?
I’m in graduate school to get to be a classroom teacher. My goal through this job specifically is to get a sense of being in the classroom and getting some of that experience. Before this, I had mostly worked one on one with students. Getting to be in the classroom is a little bit different, and I’m learning that right now.
What made you switch from your undergraduate in literature and publishing to teaching?
I did some volunteer work with students when I was abroad in the Netherlands at a high school, which was great. I’ve also volunteered at 826 Boston, which is based out of Roxbury, as a tutor, and I really enjoyed working with students.
What kinds of jobs did you have before coming to the high school?
My main job before this was working at a Dairy Queen. I had done that throughout high school and college, and it was honestly the best job. It was super fun and I loved getting to have free ice cream whenever I wanted.
What do you enjoy doing outside of school in your free time?
I really enjoy singing in choirs. That’s something I’ve been doing since I was in high school, and I’ve been able to carry that with me into my adult life, which I’ve loved.
