February Break:
Finally. Students have ten days off before they return to school on Feb. 28 to get some much-needed rest and relaxation. When they return, they can look forward to the longest uninterrupted stretch of the school year from Feb. 28 to April 14.

Lunar New Year Celebration:
Asian Pacific American Club (APAC) and the Chinese World Language program organized a full day of Lunar New Year celebrations on Feb. 18. Games and other activities took place in the MLK room from A to D-block, and the community gathered in the auditorium during E-block to watch various performances from singing to dancing.

Kanye West Instagram Rampage:
Rapper Kanye West took social media by storm, posting everything from his private text messages to movie posters advertising a face-off between him and comedian Pete Davidson. His most recent announcement entails that his next album Donda 2 will be released solely on his Donda STEM player and not on streaming services.

Super Bowl:
On Sunday Feb.13, the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams faced off for Super Bowl LVI. The Bengals were riding a Cinderella postseason story while the Rams were full of long-time talent looking to win their first ring. In the end, the Rams hoisted the Lombardi trophy with a score of 23-20 but one of the biggest highlights came with the Halftime Show featuring hip hop stars Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar.

Olympics/Russian Cheating Scandal:
The Olympics continued this week but not without more figure skating controversy. 15-year-old Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, who received positive results for the banned trimetazidine (a drug connected to enhanced sports performances through boosting the heart’s efficiency) in a test taken in Dec. fell short of a medal in the Singles Free skate which she was favored to win. The treatment of Russian figure skaters was brought to light when the media captured the harsh scolding of Russian figure skating coach, Eteri Tutberidze, after Valieva’s performance, and 17-year-old teammate Anna Shcherbakova was left alone in the spotlight after winning the event.

Apple Mask ID:
Apple’s latest update, IOS 15.4, will feature Mask ID on March 8th. After two years of not being able to easily open an iPhone with facial recognition in public areas, the struggle finally comes to a close. The feature recognizes faces with KN95, surgical and cloth masks.
