Walk-out:
Hundreds of staff and students walked out of D-Block on Friday, March 11, and gathered outside the STEM Wing to protest the anti-LGBTQ+ legislation being developed in states such as Florida and Texas.

During the walkout, members of the Gender-Sexuality Alliance (GSA) Oliver Slayton and Caelum Dulla spoke and led the crowd in chants. To read more about the walk-out, check out our coverage.

Russian Club fundraises for Ukrainian refugees:
As the Russia-Ukraine conflict escalates, millions of Ukrainian citizens are attempting to flee the country. The Russian Club raised money before school on Wednesday, March 16 to contribute to funds for these refugees. College and guidance counselor and club adviser Lenny Libenzon said this is only the beginning of the school effort to help the ongoing crisis.

“There’s just so many things going on in the school right now. The administration has its priorities, but I think they’ll talk to the [students] too. This is a good first step,” Libenzon said.

Mask mandate:
Superintendent Dr. Linus Guillory announced that on Monday, March 14, the Public Schools of Brookline (PSB) would be transitioning to a mask-friendly environment. The Brookline Department of Public Health also rescinded the town-wide indoor mask mandate just two days prior.

Daylight Savings:
Clocks jumped an hour ahead this Sunday and folks around the world lost an hour of sleep. On the bright side, the sun is scheduled to set at 7 p.m. in just one week. Spring is just around the corner. Fun fact: did you know Daylight Savings was originally invented to conserve electricity during World War I?

International Women’s Day:
The world celebrated International Women’s Day on Tuesday, March 8. International Women’s Day is a global holiday celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Next time you see a woman, make sure to thank her for everything she has done.

High gas prices:
American gas prices have soared to a record high, in some states prices reaching as high as $7.00, and an average of 4.10 across the country. A large part of this is due to the sanctions placed on Russia, one of the world’s largest suppliers of oil in the world. The last time gas prices were this high was in the summer of 2008.
