The girls tennis team brought their record to 3-4 and is looking to continue their three-win streak.

The girls tennis team played against the Framingham Flyers on Wednesday, April 26 at Waldstein Park. The varsity team won all five matches in just two sets instead of the usual three, making it a landslide victory for the Warriors as their record changed to 3-4.

The meet had three singles matches with junior Yana Volkova on the first court, sophomore Riley Ament on the second and senior Ali Vaivare on the third. All three players defeated their opponent with the smallest margin being 6-2 in one of Vaivare’s matches.

According to Volkova, her match went by quickly due to the style that she played with. Volkova won her match with the first set 6-1 and the second 6-0.

“I think it was a quick match; there weren’t many rallies. I had pretty good drop shots today and I played well at the net so I think that helped speed up the game,” Volkova said.

Similarly to Volkova, Ament and Vaivare both won their matches with a large margin. Ament won her first set 6-0 and her second 6-1, while Vaivare won her first 6-2 and her second 6-1.

The first doubles match was played by junior Samme Ash and senior Lily Feldman. The duo won both their sets 6-1.

The second doubles match was played by juniors Summer Ash and Simrah Bawa. Just like first doubles, second doubles easily won their match.

According to girls varsity tennis head coach Keith Carson, the meet went very well overall and he saw several team-wide improvements.

“We really played strategically. The players are all doing the things we have been working on, like moving the opponent around, controlling where the ball went on the court and anticipating the shots from the opponent. Also, our net play was much better today,” Carson said. “Today was a really good day for us, not just in the fact that we won all our matches, but in how we won the matches.”

Carson said the team hopes to capitalize on this win.

“After going 0 and 4 to start out the season, this streak we are on hopefully means things are shifting and that we can keep winning. I think we can definitely get there and keep winning if we just keep playing and improving as we have,” Carson said.

Feldman said team spirit continues to grow as the team gets further into the season.

“I really love the Brookline tennis team; it’s such a great environment and everyone really wants to be there. I think we are all bonded over really loving tennis, that’s the team spirit, and of course we have to scream our chant really loud,” Feldman said. “Even while I was playing I was cheering on my teammates—that’s definitely one of the best parts of being on the team.”
