John Watson – Senior
What got you into running?
I got into running through my sister. She was a captain on the team four years before me. As I watched her and her teammates at meets, running became something that seemed so freeing and fun. I remember really looking up to both the girls and the boys, especially at ceremonies and team events.
What are your goals for this season personally and as a team?
This season I’m already doing better than I have in the past, so I just hope to continue to reach faster times. A goal I have for the team is to make it a more positive, fun, and lighthearted space because we tend to take things really seriously, especially as a team that’s trying to win states and go to nationals.
What are you going to miss most about being on the team?
I’m going to miss the fun meet days where we get to hang out and cheer people on, the bus rides, and hanging out with people on the team.
What is a fun fact about you?
I’m famous on my team for my Ice Spice impression.

Training day in and day out with the team and building a good relationship with everyone.

Ben Kasen – Senior
What got you into running?
I ran a little bit during quarantine and really liked it so I decided to give it a shot.
What are your goals for this season personally and as a team?
Personally, I want every kid on our team to see meaning in running and enjoy the season. I recognize that this sport isn’t for everyone but I want to see everyone put in effort and achieve some type of goal they are proud of. Teamwise, I want to see us win states and hopefully go to nationals. States won’t be as competitive as nationals, but I think if we work, both can easily happen.
What are you going to miss most about being on the team?
I don’t really know what I’m going to miss quite yet just because I’ve tried not to think about it too much, but my guess is that I’m going to miss the people I’m around and the team’s energy, as well as the daily practices and grind.
What is a fun fact about you?
I’m a twin and my brother is the captain of the wrestling team.

What got you into running?
Freshman year, it was a great way to meet new people, especially with COVID because everyone was stuck at home. Coming to the field after school and meeting new people was important, and after the pandemic, I continued.
What are your goals for this season personally and as a team?
Personally, I want to improve my personal records. I have struggled with injury in the past, so I run every meet because until now I have never ran a full season. As a team, we have a good chance at winning states and a lot of people are hoping that we’ll do well in regionals as well so that’s a good team goal.
What are you going to miss most about being on the team?
Definitely the community. It’s nice to be able to go after school and see the same people everyday, and run with them for a couple hours.
What is a fun fact about you?
I have a pet tortoise named Sherman.
