What has been your impression of the high school so far?
For one thing, it is a lot bigger than the school I was working at before, and it’s new for me to not know everybody walking around the hallways, so that’s something that I’m adjusting to. I also notice that kids are very studious and seem to care a lot about their grades.
What do you love most about your job?
I love getting to know students and helping them reach their goals, whether that means their academic goals, mental health goals or maybe their social goals of making friends and finding community. I like being around people, and I like seeing change over the course of time when working with someone.
How does your high school experience compare to Brookline High School?
I went to a boarding school, so the experience was very different. And there’s a fair amount of freedom in boarding school; it’s kind of like being in college, so even though there’s some freedom here with having an open campus, there was not necessarily a lot of adult supervision when I was in high school.
What is the hope you have for your students?
My hope is that they can recognize that even small improvements are still improvements and that they can find something to love about learning and not focus so much on the grades.
