As a new teacher, David Gerrie’s first few weeks have been great. He has been working with colleagues, and his transition has been a smooth one.
Gerrie appeared comfortable and easygoing, joking that his only complaint was that there’s no room service.
His confidence with his new job comes from his notable hobby: musical theater. He is currently starring as a lead singer in Annie Get Your Gun in Weston with a theater group, as well as taking singing lessons and playing guitar.
Gerrie only started doing musicals recently. He first became interested in musical theater after college, when he was asked to participate in a musical.
“Your friends end up auditioning and you get good roles,” Gerrie said. “It gets better and better.”
Although he has only been playing his new role as a teacher for a few short weeks, he brings his skills as a performer to his job.
“It allows me to incorporate humor and presentation in the classroom,” he said.
