The BHS Student Democrats are putting their thinking into action.
The club began actively campaigning for President Barack Obama last spring, jumpstarting their political pursuits. Since then, the group has campaigned for numerous Democrats vying for various positions, including congressman Joe Kennedy III and senator Elizabeth Warren.
Their latest focus?
Senate candidate Ed Markey.
To campaign for Markey, the club has done everything from phone banks to canvassing in the buildup to Election Day on June 25.
These efforts encompass the club’s goal of candidate visibility, an important way to win support, according to junior Gabe Hodgkin, a member of the BHS Student Democrats.
Most recently, the group has included the Environmental Action club and the Gay Straight Alliance in their efforts.
Hodgkin feels the work of the club has been effective.
Hodgkin said, “Campaigning for candidates is the best way to advocate for a cause.”
