Anne Coulter teaches health and fitness.
Have you taught anywhere else before coming to BHS?
I have taught [PE] at Driscoll School for four years since my first year at the high school.
Have you taught here before?
I did my internship here five years ago with [health and fitness teacher] Alison Toney.
What influenced you to come back to Brookline High School versus staying at the middle school?
The opportunity came up for one class up here and I jumped at it because I really enjoyed interning up here, and it’s a great department. It’s nice to have kindergarten all the way up to 12th grade students.
Why did you become a health and fitness teacher?
I became a physical education educator because I see the value in healthy lifestyle and exercising every day, and being able to promote that from kindergarten all the way to 12th grade is a really important message to get to students in Brookline.
What’s your your message to the school community?
How important it is live a healthy lifestyle through physical fitness and exercise.
Which grade/class would you say is the easiest and most rewarding to teach?
I really enjoy teaching a Lifetime Activities class, because if you get a mix of all different types of students all in one class, [it] makes it really fun. Not just athletes, or just one group, you get a nice mix from 10th grade all the way up to 12th. So I really enjoy teaching Lifetime.
So what exactly is Lifetime Activities?
Lifetime Activities is any activity that you can do for the course of your life that’s active and social. We introduce it here in the hopes that you will continue to do it, and that can be all the way up to your old age.
