Sally Ruderman ’12 (crew)
For members of the crew team, “Row, Row, Row your boat” never ends. For 2012 graduate and rower Sally Ruderman, this was no exception. Having started as a freshman, Ruderman went on to row on the varsity team for the next three years of her high school career, eventually getting recruited by Simmons College.
“Sally was into rowing for all of high school,” her sister, and former boys crew coach, Kady Ruderman said. “But she became much more driven when she realized that she had potential in the sport.”
Ruderman struck a balance between being a teammate who motivates her teammates and helps the less experienced rowers, and becoming a leader who leads by example.
“She was very active as a team member,” said coach Ruderman. “She was always trying to encourage her teammates along. She was a good role model on the team and someone who people could go to to ask questions about how their experience was going. She was also someone they could look up to in terms of performance.”
For Ruderman and the girls crew team, the 2012 season was successful overall.
“Two of the girls’ boats won the state championships in the spring,” coach Ruderman said. “That was really big for all of them. It was a huge accomplishment.”
