Students develop personal styles of preparation for their upcoming sport events. Some prepare for a game by blasting their favorite playlists while others seek to get a few extra hours of solid sleep.
Sophomore Tim Campbell, a member of the football team, said getting rest is crucial before a big game.
“I sleep a lot more, so I have energy, because a lot of our games are in the morning which is pretty bad. I have to make sure to get sleep, so I’m ready to play later,” Campbell said.
According to senior Talia Burstein, a member of the gymnastics team, homework determines the amount of sleep she gets.
“I normally go to bed at twelve, but I’ll wake up early to do more homework if I don’t finish before midnight,” Burstein said.
To increase their energy for competitions, some athletes also adjust their diet. Junior Spikey Freedman, a member of the track team, said that she tries not to eat unhealthy food the day of or before a game or meet.
This is true for Campbell too.
“We eat pasta, kind of healthy, not like McDonalds, but not like just a salad,” Campbell said.
Kay Takinami, a sophomore member of the track team, said he likes to eat fruit roll ups for extra vitamin C to keep himself healthy before a meet.
Takinami likes to listen to pump up tracks to prepare for meets, while Burstein stretches and practices the main elements of her gymnastics routine.
Freedman said that one of her game-day preparations has become a tradition over the years.
“Right before my race, I crack my neck, and I have to touch my toes.”
