Sag: What kind of offseason work did you do?
Forti: I take pitching lessons throughout the year. This year I didn’t because I had a concussion, and that was hard, but I usually try to work out and condition before the season starts so I am prepared to pitch and don’t get really sore. The pitching lessons really help because they prepare me for the upcoming season.
Sag: How do you deal with setbacks or slumps?
Forti: It’s really hard because it gets to me, especially when I hit batters with a pitch. That’s the scariest thing because you think you’re going to do it again and again. But I think just the coaches, when you look over to them, have a reassuring look. I think when I just tune out the crowd, and just focus on what I’m doing, that really helps me, and just not focusing on anything else in the environment, just the pitch you are about to throw is the advice I tell myself.
Sag: What is your favorite part of softball?
Forti: I think the feeling I have when I’m pitching because its really exhilarating, and I think that is why I love things like theater too. It is that kind of release of energy and a lot of it is dependent on you, and everyone is focused on you. It’s kind of scary but I like that feeling.
Sag: What have you learned and how has your mindset changed?
Forti: I think I am more willing to really get into it because last year I was kind of tentative. I was new to playing in this town because I had moved in 8th grade, so I didn’t know anybody. But this year I really just want to get the team together and form a bond, and I think we have a really good chance at having a really good season.
Sag: How have subpar equipment facilities affected you?
Forti: Some of the equipment is older and we haven’t had a lot of new things in a while, but I’m not necessarily sure that is the most important thing, because I think if we work on the fundamentals then that leads to success. I also think if we got new equipment that would definitely help, but we have to make do with what we have, and I think that with new girls this season and a positive attitude, we can win some games.
