Peeps on the Street: Wearing all black to show solidarity with those who have lost their lives
September 26, 2016
Students and faculty wore black on Mon. Sep. 26 to show solidarity with those who have recently lost their lives due to police brutality. A Facebook page “BLAC” spread awareness of the movement. Members of the group also handed out black ribbons Monday morning. According to BLAC’s Facebook page, “BLAC is a group of students from Brookline High School aiming for racial equality within the school and outside of it. Join us to show solidarity!”
Junior Emma Grinspoon “I saw the posters in the school and I’ve been following the Black Lives Matter movement and all the police shootings online and in the news. I watched a few of the videos of shootings and it just really upset me how unjust this was because people were getting killed for doing nothing, simply because their skin was darker and had more melanin than other people. And people aren’t doing anything about it. People aren’t responding properly to the situation which is so pressing and becoming more pressing. It’s not getting enough action, it’s not getting enough attention. So I wanted to wear black to show that I support the movement, and I think we need to have more change and take more initiative on this issue.”
