Winter sports allowed to resume after previous suspension
The pause on Brookline athletics is coming to an end. Team coaches received an email from Athletic Director Pete Rittenburg explaining that Winter sports were “Un-Paused.”
This decision comes after an announcement on Jan. 13 that all Brookline athletics would be put on hold indefinitely due to public health concerns related to COVID-19. At the time, Director of Health and Human Services Dr. Swannie Jett said this decision would be reconsidered on Feb. 1.
According to the email, after the most recent meeting of the Town’s Advisory Council to Public Health, Dr. Jett decided that sports practices would be allowed to resume “effective immediately.” An official announcement will come tomorrow.
However, in the email, Rittenburg warned that the season could be canceled if any issues arose.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
