Throwing their caps into the air, the class of 2013 celebrated Headmaster Deborah Holman’s acceptance of the class on Sunday, June 9. The graduation took place on Cyprus field on a bright and sunny day. A second graduation was held on Monday afternoon for the seniors who were in Tennessee racing at the Youth National Championships for crew.
The keynote speakers of the first graduation included seniors Nellie Inbar and Tyrone Rose as well as storyteller and award winning filmmaker, Valarie Kaur.
Holman said that the main message of the graduation was moving out of one’s comfort zone and taking risks. She said that Rose focused on this message.
“There is a lot of camaraderie in our class. Everyone is together, and I talked about that a lot in my graduation speech,” Rose said. “The message was fraternity, everyone staying together, trying new things and stepping out of your comfort zone. A big theme was saying that next year things will be different, but similar to high school. There will be a lot more opportunities.”
