Dean of Students Adrian Mims has resigned.
“It is with sadness that I announce that Dean Mims is moving on from
Brookline High,” Headmaster Deborah Holman wrote in a letter sent to parents and students on August 23. “While we will greatly miss him and his leadership, we wish him the best of luck.”
In a letter to faculty, Holman said that Mims has accepted an opportunity to nationally expand the Calculus Project, an offshoot of the African-American Scholars program dedicated to increasing enrollment in calculus by students of color. According to Holman, Associate Dean Scott Butchart will serve as an interim dean during the 2013-2014 school year while OFC Curriculum Coordinator Brian Poon will serve as an interim associate dean in the position Butchart vacates.
“Mims’ departure is bittersweet for me,” Holman said in a telephone interview. “He was supportive of me from day one. I am sad to see him go, but I am excited for him to bring the Calculus Project to so many others around the country.”
According to Holman, a search for a new permanent dean will commence in the spring.
Mims, who filed a discrimination complaint in 2012 following his unsuccessful application for headmaster, worked at the high school for 18 years.
