Brookline educators hold rally at BHS

The Brookline Educators Union (BEU) held a rally outside the high school on Tuesday, Nov. 3 in support of striking teachers. Educators from the Brookline and Boston schools attended the rally, and several speakers from both the BEU and its affiliate, the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA), addressed the crowd regarding a six-foot social distancing requirement in schools and their negotiations with the Brookline School Committee.

Among the issues raised were class sizes, the COVID-19 exposure risk posed by MCAS testing and the discrepancy in race and infection rates. According to the Brookline Public Health Department, Black and Hispanic people are over twice as likely to contract COVID-19 as white people.
