The girls varsity soccer team defeated the Framingham Flyers in a tight 1-0 game on their senior night on Monday, Oct. 27, at Skyline Park.
The mostly even match had two defining moments that earned the Warriors a win after what has been a challenging season.
The first exciting moment of the game happened around the 20-minute mark, when senior Jada Kimbro scored a goal off a corner kick sent in by senior Eva Berkson.
The Warriors managed to hold on to this lead after the Warriors’ goalie, Chloe Price, saved a penalty around 10 minutes into the second half.
Senior and captain Elin Lindgren-Palm said that Price’s save was one of the highlights of the season.
“I will always remember when [Price] saved that penalty,” Lindgren-Palm said. “On senior night, she saved the day, and I’ll always be grateful.”
During the rest of the game, the Warriors were mostly in control, getting many corner kicks and shots on goal. However, a solid performance from the Flyers’ goalie prevented the Warriors from scoring any more, ending the game 1-0.
Despite the challenging season, head coach Ben Peters said the seniors have stayed positive.
“This is only our fifth win so far, which is low for us, but I think [the seniors have] worked really hard on trying to keep the positivity up and keep the vibes high and have done a really good job with it,” Peters said.
Assistant coach Bailey Cohen said the graduation of eight seniors last year forced the team to adapt. As a result, she said, this year’s class of seniors stepped up, acting as leaders through hardships.
“In games when we’ve struggled, [the seniors] were the ones who were saying that we know ourselves; we know we can do better,” Cohen said. “I think that feedback really lifted the team up to a different level.”
Senior and captain Mirabelle Keselman described her experience stepping into a leadership role this season as one that she has enjoyed.
“It was definitely really sad at first because we lost such a strong senior class,” Keselman said. “But it’s been really fun being an upperclassman and getting to bring to the younger classes what the older classes brought to me.”
Lindgren-Palm emphasized the importance of making strong connections with teammates.
“Make sure to learn from each other and get bonded really well,” Lindgren-Palm said. “If you’re friends off the field, you will be perfect teammates on the field.”
Keselman’s biggest advice for the younger players is to enjoy and make the best of every moment.
“I remember being here for senior night last year,” said Keselman. “It was as if I blinked, and now it’s my last game at Skyline, so enjoy it.”
