The boys varsity volleyball team dominated the Cambridge Rindge and Latin Falcons with a 3-0 victory on March 31, 2026, in the Schluntz Gymnasium.
The Warriors entered the match looking to continue their strong start to the season. Head coach Lexi De La Cruz emphasized staying focused despite early success.
According to De La Cruz, the team’s spirit and ability to play together were key factors in the win.
“I think the biggest thing was our energy and how we played together,” De La Cruz said. “The guys were feeding off each other, communicating well and really buying into what we’ve been working on in practice.”
From the opening set, the Warriors controlled the match through strong play at the net and a consistent, dominant offensive effort. Junior middle blocker Henry White played a major role in the win, tallying three kills and one ace, finding major rhythm with the setters and converting opportunities. The warriors won the first set 25-12.
“Today, it was really the connection with the setters,” White said. “In the past, I struggled a bit, since it’s my first year fully on varsity, so building that connection took time. But today it felt really good.”
The Warriors’ dominance continued through the match, and they won the second set 25-15. White said the Warriors were able to dominate as a result of balanced gameplay.
“Our blocking and our attacking were both working really well. We were just playing strongly on both sides of the net,” White said.
Despite the lopsided win, senior outside hitter and captain Amir Tomer said the Warriors remained focused on maintaining discipline and avoiding complacency.
“We know we’re a strong team, but it’s about staying focused and not getting complacent,” Tomer said. “We’ve got big goals, and that means taking care of the little things every game.”
Team chemistry also played a major role in the Warriors’ performance, as they won their final set 25-14. Tomer said that many of the players have competed together for years, and that familiarity has translated into strong communication and trust on the court.
“We’re lucky to have played together for so long, both in school and club. It almost feels like a telepathic connection where we know where each other are on the court,” Tomer said. “I don’t think many teams have that kind of chemistry between three guys [Tomer, senior and captain Alec Smagula and senior Liam Raybould]. We communicate a lot, but we also just have a feel for each other, and it really helps us win games.”
The Warriors are looking to go back-to-back with state championships. As a team with high expectations, the Warriors understand both the excitement and pressure that come with their potential, according to White.
“It’s really exciting, but also a little nerve-wracking,” White said. “You know you have the potential to win a championship, so you’ve got to live up to that and be ready for those big moments.”
Adding another win to their record, Timer said the Warriors are building momentum, relying on their chemistry, discipline and energy as they attempt to win the championship again.
“It’s been highly anticipated, and we know what it takes,” Tomer said. “Now it’s just about going out there and executing.”
